The Community of Quitman
While Georgia has become the 4th fastest growing state in the US, Quitman-Brooks County has managed to protect its rich history while bringing in new and growing industries. Although the county seat, Quitman, boasts one of the largest historical districts recorded with the National Register, the progressive business environment has led to the construction of a new 250-acre industrial park and the creation of a city-wide Urban Revitalization Plan. Also planned for completion in fall of 2008 is the new Quitman campus of Valdosta Technical College, which will provide state-of-the-art training opportunities to meet any industry's needs.
In 2008, Crown Health Care Laundry Services, Inc. selected this community for its latest expansion location. Serving the needs of hospitals and nursing homes, Quitman offered ready access to its markets.
"Quitman distinguished itself during our initial site selection process. Their hospitality, genuine interest in our project, and responsiveness to our requests set them apart from other competing communities," explained Dan Haferkamp, Crown president .
Transportation opportunities abound in Quitman, Brooks County. Strategically located on U.S. Highway 84, Quitman is just 14 miles from I-75 and 21 miles from I-10. The Georgia/FL Railway, a short-line railroad, provides access to CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroads. The Quitman-Brooks County Airport is undergoing construction activities to lengthen the runway to 5,000 ft. to accommodate most private, corporate and chartered aircraft. Three major airports surround Quitman-Brooks County and offer international air travel as well. Sea export opportunities are within a 2-hour drive at Savannah, GA, Brunswick, GA and Jacksonville, FL.
