The Community of Thomasville
Thomasville, a city in Southwest Georgia, has a quality of life and a downtown district most cities would envy. In 1998, the National Main Street Program chose Thomasville oneof five top Main Street cities inthe U.S. and was named in 2001 one of America's 100 Best Retirement Towns by Where to Retire Magazine.
The biggest downtown project to date is the restoration of the Mitchell House, a former hotel from the early 1900s when Thomasville was a winter destination for affluent Northerners. That $8 million space has become 30 lofts and condominiums in the heart of downtown.
Corporate citizen, Flower Foods, headquartered in Thomasville, chose downtown space for its Shared Services Center. The billion dollar producer of bakery foods is best known for Nature's Own, America's best-selling soft variety bread. The company's 33 bakeries produce breads, buns, rolls, snack cakes and pastries.
